LifeHackMom works really hard. She thought she worked harder than just about anyone else until she read David Allen’s Getting Things Done book at the same time that she discovered Merlin at 43 Folders.
She thought, “How can anyone be as busy as me? I own my own web development company with employees. I have two children ages 7 and 5 who require a lot of attention, care, nurturing, feeding. I have a husband with a high-powered job. I take care of my father who is ailing and all of his household matters, bills, etc. I manage 5 checking accounts, 3 homes, and a neurotic dog. I’m over $50,000 in debt. I am a Girl Scout Troop Leader. I have over 200 clients who call me at midnight on weekends and insist on interrupting my DisneyWorld vacations with “web crises” At any one time I have my fingers in 75-100 projects at work.
“No one could possibly be as busy as me.”
Then, the epiphany came. As she was hopefully reading David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) book, she read a passage where he mentioned that most of his clients have 100 or so projects.
On the same day, she listened to a podcast by Merlin where he mentioned he was juggling 75-300 projects.
“What???? I’m not special in the amount of work I have?” she asked her husband.
“No,” he replied, admitting that his task list of things he “must do” today had nearly 100 items.
Instead of being relieved to share her burden with the world, she became outraged.
“How can Americans be expected to have this much to do? How can we expect to juggle work, home chores, marriage, sex, keep healthy, etc without having a nervous breakdown? ”
Having a few tips up her sleeves for how she has managed to survive thus far, she created this blog to share it with the rest of the world. Her goal is to have others join in to inspire with their creative tips as well. Her hope is to attract working parents, especially those in really really stressful jobs, who have families to take care of as well.
